Operation Infatuate II This book describes the Allied Operation Infatuate II, the final act of the Battle of the Scheldt that began on November 1, 1944 with the landings of British, Norwegian and Belgian commandos on the coast of Walcheren near Westkapelle. Part of the invasion troops advanced through the southern dune area in the direction of Vlissingen to eliminate the German coastal batteries, while a second force fought its way to the wooded northwest of Walcheren. After a week of heavy fighting, Operation Infatuate II ended on 8 November with the capitulation of the last German troops at Vrouwenpolder. Nine walking routes 'ON THE TRACKS OF THE BATTLE OF THE SCHELDT' is a war book and walking guide in one. Nine walking routes take you along the battlefield of 1944. You literally closely follow the advance of the allied commandos through the Walcheren coastal area. Along the way you pass the many visible and invisible traces of Operation Infatuate II that make Walcheren a true open-air museum of the Second World War. In special places you reflect on the battle that has been fought. The handy walking maps in this book will help you find your way. With walking app Along the way you can use the app specially developed for these walks for your Android or Apple phone or tablet. On the app you will not only find all relevant route information and detailed hiking maps, but also links to the museums you will encounter along the way and the 14-minute film 'Commando's strike Walcheren' by the Norwegian commando Per Jonsson.
