The Strongholds of India

This is Sidney Toy's first book on fortresses in India - one of the very few good books on the subject ever published. The book offers many historical and architectural details of some 20 fortresses throughout the country.

The following strongholds in India are described: Gingee, Dindigul, Vellore, Fort St. George (Madras), Bijapur, Daulatabad, Bidar (Deccan), Ahmadnagar, Golconda, Sinhagadh, Sanivara Palace (Poona), Dabhoi, Ahmadabad, Chitor, Gwalior, Amber, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra and Delhi.

Most of the forts are described as well as pictured with photos, drawings and floorplans - the book has more than 120 illustrations.
