During the 19th century, Montalembert was the most important reference in the projects to defend the Havana city and island of Cuba with new defensive lines, entrenched camps and new type of fortifications. Despite its importance, the issue has been overlooked in studies on the architecture of fortifications in the capital of Cuba. The aim of this preliminary study is to provide new knowledge on the subject and highlight the significance of Cuba in the evolution of polygonal fortification in Latin America.
