The book describes the fortifications designed and built by the Venicians throughout Europe between (roughly) the 14th and 19th century. The Venicians were famous for their high-quality standards in fortification-design and their expertise was recognized from north to south and from east to west. Amongst others, the Venicians designed fortifications in Palmanova, Verona, Corfu, Crete, Treviso, Padova and many other cities and towns in Europe. This book tells the history of how, where and why the Venicians built their fortifications - and what was their "secret", why were they so good in designing them. The book is written in Italian entirely and is illustrated with more then 250 photos, plans, drawings and maps, of which many in full-colour. FABULOUS book! |
