A very detailed and well-documented book about the history and characteristics of the fortifications that were built by the Spanish in Cartagena de Indias, Columbia between the 16th and 19th century.

With the help of dozens of plans and maps the author shows the history and development of the fortifications. Each century is described in a separate chapter. Juan Manuel Zapatero is considered to be one of the major experts on Spanish fortifications built in Central and South America. This is one of his most famous books.

The book is written in Spanish entirely and illustrated with ca. 100 photos, plans, drawings and maps. The book is in GOOD shape, although the dustjecket is worn and torn.
