The book describes the history and development of the fortifications of the French town of Belfort.

It starts out on describing the history of Belfort from the 13th century onwards - however, emphasis lies on the period from the 16th tot the 19th century, when Belfort developed its modern fortifications. Famous fortress-designers and - engineers like Vauban, Haxo and Séré de Rivieres were involved in designing and developing the fortifications of Belfort.

The book is written in French entirely and is illustrated with with ca. 200 photos, plans, drawings and maps - mostly in full-colour! Printed in 1000 copies only, this is a hard-to-find book on the beautiful fortifications of Belfort!
