Description

The book describes the fortifications of Maastricht (Netherlands) and the role they played in wars and sieges.

Maastricht was considered to be of main military, strategical and economical importance througout its history. Because of its stratigical position along the river Meuse it was of major national and international importance and involved in many wars and sieges through the ages. The fortifications in and around Maastricht were reinforced and extended again and again, using the experiences and developments of international fortifications and designers like Vauban and Van Coehoorn. Thus this book on the history of the fortifications of Maastricht is very much a contribution to the knowledge of fortification in general in Western Europe.

The book is written in Dutch entirely, but has summaries in German and French. It is illustrated with ca. 100 photos, drawings, plans and maps.
