Two bunkers were discovered during construction work at the
Prins Hendrikweg in Vlissingen. It was assumed that the entire
bunker complex located here had been demolished in April 1980.
Of the two bunkers that were found, only the two-meter-thick
roof now appears to have been demolished.
Together with the Walcheren Archaeological Service, the Bunker
Preservation Foundation conducted research on site. A number of
finds were made, including two bunker stoves that were still in
the bunker and some personal objects of soldiers such as a boot.
The bunker number is also still printed on the wall: Vlissingen
015-119 (support point Vlissingen 015, bunker 119).
In September and October 1944, the remnants of the German 15th Army
sailed from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen to Vlissingen. Thousands of German
soldiers were able to escape the Allied army that had already captured
Antwerp. A large number of injured people must have been patched up
in the hospital bunker (type 118c) in the hospital complex at Prins
Hendrikweg. Two dressing stations of the type 134S (Sani: medical)
had been built for the less serious cases and for recovery. This was
a modified design of the ammunition bunker type 134, with a widening
in the corridor to make maneuvering with stretchers easier.
