The defences of Bizerte 1881-1963

The defences of Bizerte 1881-1963
Author: Moulins, Jean-Jacques

Language: French

The book describes the French defences of Bizerte, north of Tunis (Africa) as built between 1881 and 1963.

Description

The book is a very detailed description of the defences built by the French in the Bizerte region, a strategically very important place in North Africa - just northwest of Tunis. This was a very important French naval base for about 80 years and had to be protected accordingly.

The book divides the defences in 3 eras: 1881 to 1918 - 1918 to 1939 and 1943 to 1963. All major defences are described in the book: the forts, batteries, infantry positions, anti-aircraft positions, etc.

The book is not only of great importance for anyone interested in fortifications, but also for artillery-enthusiasts:  many of the defences were  (heavy!) coastal batteries. The book contains much information and many illustrations on artillery and armour.

The book is written in French and is illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps - some in colour. Only 500 copies were printed of this book.
