A detailed and well-documented history and description of the bunkers that were once part of the Atlantic Wall fortifications built by the German Army on the Dutch island of Goeree, just south of Rotterdam. The island had several coastal batteries, anti-aircraft batteries, infantry positions, radarstations and some other sites - all of which are described in great detail. After a short introduction on the history and organisation of the Atlantic Wall in general and on the island of Goeree in particular, the authors "zoom-in" on the different sites on the island. What was their function? When and why were they built? What was the function of the individual bunkers on these sites. These and many other questions are answered in this book. The book is written in Dutch and illustrated with ca. 200 photos, drawings, floorplans and maps. A MUST have for anyone interested in the Atlantic Wall fortifications, but also for those with an interest in the (World War Two-) history of the island Goeree. |
