From Defence to Protection - The Atlantic Wall in The Hague

From Defence to Protection - The Atlantic Wall in The Hague
Author: Ambachtsheer, Henk

Language: Dutch

A VERY detailed history and description of the Atlantic Wall in The Hague, Holland.

Description

Comprehensive and well-documented book about the Atlantic Wall in the city of The Hague in Holland. On 283 pages, the authour describes the bunkers and other defences that were built by the Germans during World War Two in this city, that was of great importance to them because many military and civilian organisations and authorities were stationed there. This explains why so many bunkers were built here.

The book is a VERY detailed description of the Atlantic Wall fortifications in The Hague. With the help of good maps, and many photos, drawings and floorplans the author tells us all the ins and outs of the bunkers - where they were built, why and when, and for which purpose. He often starts with a map that gives a general overview of a specific area and then he "zooms in" on the defences of that area - with all kinds of illustrations and statistics.

Last but not least, the author tells where we can find substantial remains of the fortifications and defences and what is their present status. A truely FANTASTIC book! It is written in Dutch and illustrated with MANY HUNDREDS of photos (many contemporary, taken during or right after the war), drawings, floorplans and maps.
