Description

"Festung Lorient"  ("Fortress Lorient")  was a very important German submarine-base and naval strongpoint in World War Two. It is famous because of its HUGE submarine bunker ( "Ubootbunker"). Because of its importance for the German Kriegsmarine, it was fortified to the highest level. The entire town was surrounded by coastal batteries, anti-aircraft batteries, radarstations, infantry positions - all in fortress-standard bunkers. It was only captured by the Allies after fierce fighting in 1944 / 45.

The story of the "Festung Lorient" and its role in the war is described by Wilhelm Fahrmbacher, Artillery General and Commanding General of the German XXV. Armeekorps and Commander of the "Festung Lorient" until its surrender. The other author of the book, Walter Matthiae, was Commander of the Seadefence and Oberwerftdirektor - "Chief of the Naval Wharf. The defences of Lorient are described in great detail, as well as the happenings in 1944 and 1945. The Atlantic Wall described by one of its commanding German officers!

The book is written in German and ilustrated with dozens of photos and maps. It is in GOOD shape and VERY RARE!!
