The building program for airraidshelters and- bunkers was one of the largest building programs of World War Two in Germany. Over a very short period in time and with the help of vast amounts of people and material the German Reich built a giant amount of bombproof bunkers, shelters and tunnels for the civilian population in their cities. One year after the beginning of the so-called "Führersofortprogramm" , each major city had its first bunkers ready for use! Construction time for these shelters had to be minimised due to the constant bombing raids carried out by the Allied Airforces. For the construction of airraid shelters, bunkers, tunnels, etc. in this program millions and millions cubic meters of earth and concrete were moved and used. These building very often STILL influence the appearence of entire cities in Germany. This book tells thes detailed history and architectural details of these structures in Bochum, Germany. Lavishly illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, plans, drawings and maps. It is written in German. |
