This book is considered to be the best book on the subject of Flaktowers published so far. This type of construction was built in Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna only. It was a combination of a giant airraid bunker (example: Gefechtsturm VI in Hamburg measured 57 x 57 meter and was over 40 meters high!) with a complete heavy anti-aircraft battery on its roof, with 8 guns of 12,8 cm calibre in 4 twin mountings. This type of construction was specially designed for use in urban areas - in the middle of large cities, were they offered a raised platform for the anti-aircraft battery to enable the guns to shoot over the rooftops.

This book tells the history of the Flaktürme - how it came to this extraordinary design and construction. But it also shows the armament and how the Flaktürme were supposed to be used and operated. It tells how thousands of civilians were supposed to find shelter in the bunkers while the heavy anti-aircraft guns on top would be firing on the Allied airplanes that were bombing the city.

The different types of towers are described and pictured with the use of over 130 photos, drawings, floorplans and documents. The book is accompanied by 7 large, folding floorplans (A0-format) that show each of the 7 floors of one of the Flaktowers of the Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg. It is written in German entirely and published by Fortress Books.
