Description

Ypres is a strange place. After the First World War it was completely in ruins and only knee-high. It has risen from its ashes - just like the mythological Phoenix.  The town was rebuilt in the 1920's - using maps and old photographs to give it back its old pre-war splendour. In some cases, only human memory could be used for lack of old pictures. Ypres is, in fact, a copy of which the original is lost.

The book is a travelguide that can be used when visiting the Ypres Salient, the Hiroshima of World War One. It not only describes the happenings during the war, but it also shows museums, cemetaries and other places of interest.

Hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives in this region. Many thought they were fighting a war that would end all wars. Their ideals were not accomplished, but their dead bodies still have value: their are a constant reminder to the madness of war.

Each square foot of soil in Ypres has its own history. Even "buffs" who spend a larger amount of their spare time there keep discovering - again and again! - new things.

This book is an invitation to visit "The Great War" of Ypres. The many memories and memorials give you the opportunity to travel back in time. Let this book guide you and relive this unusual adventure.

The book is written in Dutch and illustrated with dozens of photos and maps. It is one of the "hardest-to-find" Dutch books on the subject. It is in VERY GOOD shape.
