The book describes the fortifications that were built in Italy and abroad by the Venicians between 1508 and 1797.
The Venicians had a fine reputation for designing and building high-quality fortifications between the 16th and 18th century. Because of this high quality they were asked and invited all over Europe to design and build fortifications. This book tells of the Venician fortifications. It shows the characteristics and architectural details - but it also shows where they were built and how they were built. It also shows the people behind the designs - the designers themselves, their life and works. The Venicians designed and built fortifications in Bergamo, Candia, Cipro, Corfu, Famagosta, Macarska, Malta, Dubrovnik, Rovereto, Treviso, Vicenza and MANY other places, all of which are described in this book. It is written in Italian entirely and illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps. The book is quite hard-to-find and in VERY GOOD shape. |
