Description

In the past, in the 18th and 19th centuries, naval battles
were mostly characterized by enemy fleets forming a line,
passing each other and firing their cannons at close range.
Later, with advances in weapons and ammunition technology,
caliber and range increased and naval battles took place over longer distances.
Large caliber and long-range guns were also used on land in shore
batteries. A classic example of coastal artillery was the German
Atlantic Wall, designed to protect more than 1,700 miles of coastline
from Norway to France. In this collection, Hans Karr devotes himself to all
cannons that were used both on the high seas and on the coast. A comprehensive overview of the technical characteristics and types of all caliber
classes of the Imperial Navy and Navy.
