Description

Although one of the very first books published on the German Westwall defences - it was published almost 32 years ago! - it is still one of the very best books about the subject. The amount of information in the book is truely fantastic!

The Westwall was built by Germany in the 1930's as defence against an enemy attack coming from the west - i.e. coming from France. It consisted of bunkers, underground tunnels, anti-tank ditches, -walls and - obstacles. It proved to be a tough nut to crack for the Allies in 1944 and 1945.

The author describes the history of the Westwall in the book, but he also describes the bunkertypes, the armoure parts, the anti-tank obstacles, bunker equipment, armament, etc. He also describes how the Westwall was designed and constructed - how this was organised and carried out. Apart from the heavy concrete bunkers the author also describes the somewhat lighter constructions - the "feldmäßige Bauten". Het describes the Westwall in the region of Nordrhein-Westfalen in great detail.

The book is entirely written in German, illustrated with HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, bunkerplans and maps.  A MUST for anyone interested in the Westwall!
