Description

The island of Helgoland has always been of major strategical importance for the Germany. The island has always been a center of military activities: coastal batteries, anti-aircraft batteries, radar stations, u-boast base, naval port, the island had it all.

This book - the first of two volumes on the modern military history of the island - describes the period from 1891 to 1922. The largest part of the book describes the fortifications that were built from the late 19th century to those built during World War One. It describes all batteries and emplacements that were built until their desctruction after World War One.

It contains more than 100 photos, floorplans, drawings and maps. A VERY interesting piece of fortification-history. The book is entirely written in German.
