Description

In the book about the German invasion force in Agder in 1940-1945, an overview is provided for the first time of how the Germans built fortifications along the south coast of Norway and how the region should be defended in case of an Allied attack. The book is based on information obtained from the German war diaries and documents in American, German and Norwegian archives. War diaries were kept by the German military units which were stationed in Agder during World War Two.

The book describes the occupation forces which were stationed in the region during the war years and the various fortifications that they built. Emphasis is placed on illustrating the historical background of why the various forces and defences were placed where they were.

The book start with the German invasion of April 9, 1940 and the early development of coastal forts at the important harbour of Kristiansand and the supply route past Lista. Then it describes the development of the land defences around the southern cities in 1941 and the construction of 15 new coastal forts along the Agder coast in the years 1941-1943. The author examines the reinforcements that arrived and the organizational measures that were taken to strengthen the German defence. The different constructions and concepts of the Atlantikwall at Agder are explained in depth.

The book describes the Festung Kristansand and the Festung Lista, where commanders were told to fight to the last man. The development of German radar installations as well as the use of railway artillery, etc.
