1944: The Atlantic wall in Normandy

1944: The Atlantic wall in Normandy
Author: Chazette, Alain & Destouches, Alain

Language: French

A detailed description of the history, organisation and characteristics of The Atlantic wall fortifications in Normandy, France.

Description

The book is a detailed description of the history, organisation and (architectural) characteristics of the Atlantic Wall fortifications built by the Germans in Normandy, France - the best so far.

It tells and shows how the bunkers and other defences were built by the Organisation Todt and how the defence of Normandy was organised. It also shows the structure and organisation of the Atlantic Wall itself.

The largest portion of the book, however, is a description of the fortifications of the Atlantic Wall themselves - the individual coastal batteries, anti-aircraft batteries, radarstations, infantry positions, etc. With the help of HUNDREDS of illustrations, the authors show how these were structured and how they were manned and used - but also how the fortifications look today. What is their present status - how can they be found.

The book is written in French and is illustrated with MANY HUNDREDS of photos, drawings, plans and maps. A fantastic guide to take along when you're visiting the D-Day landing beaches and battlefields of World War Two in Normandy!
